Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his future after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to change things and earn three points naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Discussions with Club Management

When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He added, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction

The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period such as this with performances like these.”

He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“Our aim is to help the side back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
