Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
