Former Doctor Accused of Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a former physician stands accused of performing sexual assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

A senior prosecutor commented, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Investigation

The charges follow what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

The charging documents said the 45 charges he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
