Having held the urban area under encirclement for approximately 24 months, from late summer the RSF moved to strengthen its control and restrict the surviving inhabitants.

Space-based imagery demonstrate that fighters started to erect a massive berm - a raised sand barrier - encircling the edges of al-Fashir, blocking roads and preventing relief supplies.

As the siege intensified, seventy-eight individuals were slain in an RSF strike on a place of worship on 19 September, while the UN stated fifty-three further were slain in drone and heavy weapon strikes on a makeshift community in the autumn.

Perhaps the most graphic recordings to emerge and examined depicted the consequences of a mass killing at a campus structure on the western of the city, where scores dead bodies were visible spread throughout the ground.

An older person dressed in a white tunic remained alone amongst the bodies. He rotated to gaze as a fighter armed with a rifle proceeded along the staircase facing him. Raising his firearm, the shooter discharged a single shot at the man, who dropped to the floor still.

"For what reason is this individual yet alive," a militiaman cried. "Shoot this person."

Space-based imagery captured on 26 October appeared to substantiate that killings were furthermore conducted on the streets of al-Fashir, based on a analysis issued by the academic research center.

An eyewitness who spoke reported the individual had seen "many of our kin getting killed - they were assembled in a single location and everyone killed."

Included among detained was subsequent to a investigation recording his killings. Carefully choreographed and edited video published on the RSF's authorized Telegram channel show the commander being led into a prison room at a jail on the outskirts of el-Fasher.

Simultaneously, the RSF and affiliated digital channels began attempting to alter the narrative.

Content depicting its fighters distributing aid to residents were disseminated by some individuals, while the paramilitary's communications team released multiple recordings purporting to show the compassionate handling of military prisoners of war.

Despite the online initiative being deployed by the paramilitary, their conduct in the city have generated worldwide condemnation.
