The Banking Giant Warned American Government About More Than $1 Billion in Epstein-Related Financial Activities Possibly Connected to Human Trafficking

Recent court documents reveal that JP Morgan submitted a SAR in 2019 warning federal authorities about more than $1 billion in financial transfers linked to the convicted sex offender that may have been related to trafficking activities.

Bank's Comprehensive Documentation of Questionable Activity

JP Morgan identified approximately nearly five thousand financial activities amounting to over $1 billion that were possibly linked to trafficking allegations concerning Epstein, as reported in the recently unsealed court documents.

This documentation was filed only a few weeks after Epstein's death in a New York jail cell and also highlighted wire transfers made by the financier to Russian banks.

Prominent Figures Named in Documentation

The SAR named several prominent business figures and persons in association with the flagged transactions, including:

  • Leon Black, who departed from the private equity firm in 2021
  • Glenn Dubin, an established investment professional
  • The noted attorney, acting as legal counsel for Epstein
  • Trusts under the direction of retail tycoon the retail magnate

The report particularly noted $65 million in electronic payments from the mid-2000s that appeared to move between various financial institutions linked to the Wexner-controlled entities.

Legal and Governmental Examination

The bank's long-standing association with the convicted sex offender has become a source of major judicial examination and political attention.

These released records were part of legal proceedings from 2023 filed by the American territory, where the financier maintained a personal island property and managed most of his financial affairs.

Additionally, women who were trafficked by the financier also were involved in the legal action, which JP Morgan eventually settled.

Financial Institution's Response and Regulatory Background

A spokesperson for the bank commented that the release of the SARs demonstrates the institution had notified regulators about Epstein appropriately.

The representative emphasized: "These reports verify what's been inferred: the bank submitted reports about the financier early on, and specifically when it terminated relationship with him from the bank in 2013 – and repeatedly between 2013 and 2019, as mandated."

She added: "It does not appear that federal authorities or investigative agencies responded to those SARs for an extended period."

Individual Responses and Judicial Position

Spokespeople for the identified persons have provided different statements regarding their inclusion in the report:

  • Glenn Dubin's representative stated that the transactions in question were not connected to Epstein's crimes
  • The attorney maintained the sole payments he received from the financier were for legal services
  • Leon Black's representative declined to comment

Crucially, none of the individuals identified in the report have been charged with crimes in connection to the financier.
