The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring several personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four distinct souls, each with their own anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, while other scenes depict the main character navigating a desolate church.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger something primal inside us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by nurses all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the waiting room have large flowers growing from their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the body belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, since each soul can lie or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The final entity remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
