The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
