The UK and France have inked a memorandum of understanding concerning the deployment of troops in Ukraine in the event a peace agreement be made with Moscow, the British leader, Keir Starmer, has stated.
Following discussions with allied nations in Paris, he said that the UK and France would "create defense centers throughout Ukraine and construct protected facilities for arms and defense matériel" to discourage any subsequent invasion.
The allied nations also suggested that the America would play the primary role in overseeing a ceasefire.
The Kremlin has on multiple occasions cautioned that any external forces in Ukraine would be considered a "legitimate target", but has as yet not responded on this recent declaration.
Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a major offensive of Ukraine in February 2022, and Russian forces currently controls roughly 20% of Ukrainian territory.
"This is a vital part of our vow to be alongside Ukraine for the foreseeable future," remarked Starmer.
Top officials and top officials from the "Coalition of the Willing" took part in the Paris negotiations.
Speaking at a shared media briefing, Starmer further said: "It paves the way for the operational parameters under which allied and coalition forces could work on Ukraine's territory, defending Ukraine's skies and seas, and restoring Ukraine's armed forces for the time to come."
The PM went on to say that Britain would take part in any American-headed verification of a potential truce.
Top Washington representative Steve Witkoff remarked that "lasting defense assurances and robust prosperity commitments are essential to a lasting peace" in Ukraine – referring to a key condition made by the Ukrainian government.
Witkoff said the allies had "substantially agreed on" their work on agreeing such pledges "in order that the citizens of Ukraine know that when this hostilities ends, it ends permanently."
Donald Trump's son-in-law, US President Donald Trump's representative, also took part in the discussions.
Separately, France's leader Emmanuel Macron stated that Ukraine's supporters had made "major headway" at the meeting.
He noted that "strong" security guarantees for Kyiv had been agreed in the instance of a prospective ceasefire.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that a "significant development" had been made in the negotiations, but added that he would only deem efforts to be "adequate" if they culminated in the conclusion of the fighting.
Recently, Zelensky suggested a settlement was "largely prepared". Agreeing on the outstanding 10% would "determine the future of peace, the future of Ukraine and Europe".
Russian forces currently holds about 75% of the Donetsk oblast and around 99% of the neighbouring Luhansk. The two regions form the industrial region of the Donbas.
The initial US-led 28-point framework that was circulated to the media last year was perceived by Ukraine and its European allies as being disproportionately favorable in Moscow's direction.
