Ukrainian Forces Launches Mass Production of Novel Defensive Drones

Ukraine has announced the start of large-scale manufacturing for a new domestically developed interceptor drone to strengthen its aerial protection systems. The first three producers have started production, with 11 more preparing to set up assembly lines, Ukrainian military officials announced on Friday.

'Octopus' Technology Tested in Battlefield Situations

These UAVs utilize a domestically developed technology known as “Octopus” designed to neutralize Shahed drones. This technology underwent testing in combat and proved successful “during nighttime, amid electronic warfare and at low altitudes,” the ministry stated. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy established an ambitious goal of producing as many as 1,000 interceptors daily.

Recent Attack on the Capital Described as Deliberate

The Ukrainian president characterized Moscow's most recent assault against Ukraine as “deliberate, calculated and brutal” after six people lost their lives and many others wounded in a series of night-time strikes across Kyiv. Air raid sirens sounded in Kyiv just after midnight on Friday, with Shahed drones soon detected overhead and heavy machine-gun fire from Ukrainian air defences.

The president reported the country was hit by 430 drones and multiple missiles. Those killed had been inside their residences in a block of flats on the capital's left bank during the strike. Dozens of other buildings were damaged, among them the Azerbaijani embassy.

Diplomatic Objection After Embassy Damage

Azerbaijan said it issued a strong protest to the Russian ambassador on Friday after the destruction at its diplomatic compound. The blast from a Russian Iskander missile destroyed a section of the compound's boundary wall and resulted in significant destruction to the diplomatic compound, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry reported. There were no personnel injured, and an official representative said the diplomatic mission in Ukraine was maintaining operations.

Russian Glide Bomb Production Experiences Significant Increase

Russia plans to produce as many as 120,000 glide bombs in the current year, a senior Ukrainian intelligence official said, among them 500 of a new, longer-range version that is capable of targeting more towns and cities. Moscow's military were firing 200 to 250 glide bombs per day, with the previous month's average daily usage being approximately 170, based on official military statistics.

Kyiv's Strikes Target Moscow's Energy Infrastructure

Moscow's maritime terminal of Novorossiysk temporarily suspended crude shipments this past Friday – representing two percent of worldwide oil production – after a strike by Ukrainian forces. Ukraine’s general staff stated its forces had fired domestically produced missiles and deployed multiple kinds of strike drones in the assault against Novorossiysk “as part of operations to diminish the military and economic potential of the Russian aggressor.”

Ukraine separately targeted an oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov region and an energy depot in the adjacent Engels region during the night.

International Sanctions Affect Moscow's Oil Producer

Russia’s second-largest energy company Lukoil announced on Friday it has been in talks with interested parties regarding its international holdings after recent sanctions from Western nations and the collapse of an agreement with the Gunvor trading house. “Final arrangements are to be disclosed once the final agreements have been reached and required authorizations are secured,” the company commented.

Zelenskyy Plans Visit to Spain

Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit the Spanish capital, Madrid, on Tuesday to confer with lawmakers a day after his trip to France, Spanish parliamentary officials announced. Zelenskyy would meet deputies from all houses of parliament during his visit, the Spanish statement said.
