As stated by a high-ranking military official, the American military executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, killing four individuals.
“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a deadly attack on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”
The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to increase the military buildup.
Just on Tuesday, US defense officials said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
The administration has encountered increasing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of lawful warfare.
While the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs headed to the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to confirm a broader political objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”
This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a push to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
